In March of 2024, we sent out a request to participate in a survey being conducted by PhD candidate, Paula Abola to further the understanding of Parkinson’s Disease and Medications. Well, Paula recently sent an email to me thanking those in our support group that participated and noted the results of her study which were published in the American Journal of Medical and Clinical Research & Reviews!
The study examined how likely patients with Parkinson’s Disease and healthcare practitioners are to have knowledge of various pharmacological management options, and how factors like age, education, geographical location, and employment status influence this knowledge. We discovered a significant knowledge gap between patients and practitioners, especially for newer or less commonly used medications. We also found that individuals with higher education levels or younger age were more likely to have knowledge of a wider range of medications. These findings highlight the need for better education and communication around available Parkinson’s Disease management options to support informed, shared decision-making.
Paula is now doing a follow-up study on Parkinson’s Disease pharmacological management decisions. I would encourage you to review and if you qualify to participate in the study:
CLICK HERE. It is an online survey that should take less than 30 minutes to complete.
It is great to see how our participation can advance the knowledge and understanding of issues important to the management and treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. Scott and I appreciate your consideration!
Kind regards,
Scott and Rick
